Overview

The Oracle Node is operated from the United States. We keep things simple: no ad networks, no third-party analytics. This policy explains what data we collect and why.

Data We Collect

Page Views

We count article views to understand which content resonates with readers. To prevent duplicate counts we generate a one-way daily hash (SHA-256 of your IP address, the date, and the article ID). This hash cannot be reversed to identify you, and your raw IP address is never stored permanently.

Server Logs

Our web server records standard access log data (requested URL, timestamp, browser type, IP address, referring page) for security and uptime monitoring. These logs are retained briefly and then purged.

Contact Form

When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, and message. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not shared with third parties. We retain it for up to twelve months, then delete it.

User Accounts

Accounts are available by invitation only to editorial contributors. We store your name, email address, and a secure password hash (bcrypt). Optional profile details (bio, avatar, social handles) are stored only if you choose to provide them.

Cookies

We use session cookies only — small files that keep you logged in during a visit and expire when you close your browser. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics. No cookie consent banner is required because we do not track you.

Embedded Content

Some articles may contain videos embedded from YouTube or Vimeo. When you load a page with an embedded video, your browser connects directly to that provider and their privacy policy applies. We have no control over what they collect.

Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes and are never available in plain text. Access to systems and data is limited to those who need it.
