For more than two centuries, Hollow Earth maps have placed enormous openings at the North and South Poles. John Cleves Symmes wanted to lead an expedition through one. Later writers claimed Admiral Richard Byrd had actually crossed the boundary. Early satellite mosaics added dark circles at the poles, while modern versions sometimes replace physical holes with hidden passages or dimensional thresholds. Why did the entrances end up at the two places on Earth most difficult to reach?
